OSPAR work session in Rotterdam, 10. November 2017, about handling (plastic) garbage in the fishing sector
On 10 November 2017 from 13h- 16h (followed by networking drinks) the OSPAR work session “Handling (plastic) garbage in the fishing sector” will take place during the Europort event in Rotterdam (The Netherlands).
The work session is part of the implementation of action 36 of the OSPAR Regional Action Plan Marine Litter. This action strives to develop and promote best practices in relation to marine litter as originating from the fishing sector.
The work session will focus on the practical experiences with preventing new (plastic) garbage form the fishing sector to end up in the oceans, especially concerning the handling of plastic domestic waste and discarded fishing gear on board of fishing vessels and in fishing harbours. By discussing the practices with the participants new ways for better waste management and prevention will be explored. The work session takes place during the Europort event, an important international meeting place for maritime industry professionals.
