While the impacts of microplastics in marine ecosystems have been reported in the literature since the 1970s, many questions remain open. MICRO 2018 provides an opportunity to share available knowledge, fill in gaps, identify new questions and research needs, and develop commitments to operationalise solutions; MICRO 2018 will be a chance to reconvene, share what we have learned, and generate momentum for the work that remains to be done.
Clean Nordic Oceans has started to plan a workshop in October. The workshop will be separated into two parts, where the first part will discuss "The loss of fishing gear and ghost fishing" and the second part will discuss recycling and receiving plans for discarded fishing gears. The Circular Ocean team are pleased to announce their next public event will take place in Ålesund, Norway on April 18th & 19th 2018. The two day conference will encompass topics surrounding the use of waste fishing net materials in creating new business opportunities and practices for better management of marine plastics. Organised by partners at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Ålesund, the conference will be held in conjunction with “NTNU Sustainability Days” where researchers, students, industry and government meet to discuss and solve current issues.
